What Does a Ramp Agent Do?
Ramp agents provide support services to ensure smooth air travel operations. Also known as fleet service agents, baggage handlers, or baggage clerks, they may direct arriving and departing airplanes and handle passenger baggage and cargo. They may also clean the cabin and lavatories.
Ramp Agent Job Overview
In the ramp agent role, you will collaborate with other fleet service agents in transporting, loading, and unloading luggage and packages in and out of the aircraft. You will also direct and assist with the aircraft’s parking and departure. You will be expected to inspect all cargo and report any damage. Success in this role will be demonstrated by delivering proper and prompt aircraft services to help the airline meet its flight schedules.

- Employs standard visual signals in directing parking and departing planes
- Verifies luggage tags and flight information
- Inspects ramp areas and ensures safety
- Assists with pushback and towing
- Places passenger luggage in conveyor belts

Ramp Agent Job Requirements
- Past ramp experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license
- Effective communication skills
- Able to stand for extended hours
- Able to lift heavy objects (Max 70 lbs)
- High school diploma or equivalent
