In the occupational therapist role, you will work with recovering patients to rehabilitate them through daily therapeutic activities and treatments. A key element of this position is the effective assessment of the patient’s conditions and the design of suitable treatment plans. Success in this role is measured by patient recovery, be it improved or complete. 

Occupational Therapist Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assesses the patient’s physical and mental health conditions
  • Recommends adjustments to home and work environments
  • Develops treatment plans fitted to the patient’s unique condition
  • Designs physical rehabilitation programs to regain or develop patient’s motor skills
  • Educates patient’s family or caregivers on proper care
  • Performs final assessments before patients are cleared

Occupational Therapist Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 1-year relevant patient care experience preferred
  • Certification by the National Board for Certifications in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to interact with a variety of personalities
  • Proficient in medical computer programs
  • Empathy for patients
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
